I know there are tons of mirrors to download the games that we play, but there are a lot of mirrors that are way out of date.

By helping the community, maybe we can have our own mirror of the game for players to download, with updated patches already installed. In order for them to download, they must register before they can get the file. It may take up a lot of space, but maybe we can reel more people in to our forums/site that way.

I dunno, aren't lots of companies against you hosting their clients - unless you are official? Cause they can't guarantee the contents of 3rd party downloads? :x

It increases our bandwidth requirements by quite a bit and yes, we'd need to be officially sanctioned by the publishers to distribute their clients. This could end up adding quite a bit of administrative overhead and liability to make sure we keep up to date with the latest version.

Not saying no, just saying there's a bit more to think about.

Even if we were, there are some nations that MegaUpload/Rapidsuck blocks. Plus the download limit and limit on file size per upload simply makes it impractical.

If anything, it'd be more efficient to set up a torrent tracker so that all the downloaders can also contribute in seeding the files.

^ could say the same thing for torrent too, some ISP throttles or just blocks torrent, lol.
