k0n's Suggestions
Okay, I'm going to try to make this realistic as possible. Go down if you don't want to read this and get to the point.
Since there are many gaming forums and other forums that exists and still thrive these days, there many things to learn from them. For a gaming forum, the number one use of any gaming forum is guides. Since this is a MMO forum, the second use is marketing/trading. The third, when both exists, are basically user to user interactions.
@Guides:I'm not sure exactly, how every MMO game is played. However, I can assure you that there will be a various amounts of subjects, classes, items and quest informations.
I would suggest that a wiki or a guide quick link to be on the top or on the left navigation bar. Once a user clicks that page, I would suggest having a drop down menu to sort out which game they want and redirects them to the forum. From there gamers and moderators/admins could sort the subjects out. Ratings should be open for this section since not all guides can be useful.
Guides should be thread base so people can comment on them.
I like how MyTrickster has a consent when making a guide in the guide sections. This way, you can eliminate the useless questionairs from new users that don't read before posting.
@Marketing:What I noticed from Maple Story is that there are two thriving sites that go hand and hand with the community. One is the general user to user forum and the other is a site dedicated to trading. The main reason why the trading site is still operation is that it focuses on trading a lot.
See Maple Story
I would suggest something similar to that but instead, have it text base for now.
Ratings should be on to remark how well the trades operated so other users could see how well their trades may operate with the user.
Ratings should also have a comment option if possible.
Ratings cannot prevent people from trading. Since we're going to operate more than one MMO, it's best to either banned them from an actual scam or make their trades improve on their own. Remember, the customer is on their own and we can not be their to guide both of them.
Actioning should have an actual timer.
All trades must be finalized so no edits.
Repetitive deletion of trades will prevent the user from offering a trade for a set of days unless that person has an excuse.
Make sure to leave an opening for sprite images if possible
A search function would help finding trades easier.
@User Interface:Since we're going to have several MMO's, it would help to have custom user created forum layouts. This could help user look at thread that they want to see and have an ability to remove ones that they don't want to see.
Guides shouldn't be assigned to a single game to prevent clone guilds.
Albums shouldn't host images but rather display images from other hosting site to reduce bandwidth consumption. This could help out the Artwork section a ton load.
Enable subscriptions to albums as well.
It would be nice if our ScreenShot section would be like HongFire's but the links are redirected to the hosting site instead. However, I'm thinking a bit further; instead of having all the pictures all loaded up on one screen or have multiple ScreenShot threads, they could be just an album where the pictures are smaller and larger when selected. The comments could be on the bottom. Though having separate comments for each one would okay as well.
I like the Social Groups because it allows people to talk about whatever they want following the basic rules of the site. **Private social groups are our only concern.
Social Groups should be on a quick link on the navigators.
Enable a search function when trying to find a specific SG (title, date, author).
Have special SG's sticked and have popular public SG's on the top when finding a special group.
Have the Anime/Cartoon section be turned into an Entertainment section with Anime/Cartoons, TV shows, Movies, Sports in a child forum.
Those are my suggestions and I hope they aren't too much, but I don't know anything about web design so I won't complain if it's too much for ya'll. Also, change the default font to black. It's hard to read sometimes... ><
Also it would be nice to have more features on the quick message such as text, alignment and or size.
